Urban Biodiversity Week

Urban Biodiversity Week, from May 10 to May 18, will include a series of free events that celebrate urban biodiversity and conservation and will culminate with a Nature Block Party on Saturday May 17th at William Powers State Park and Eggers Woods.

Events include:

  • Garlic Mustard Pull at Eggers Woods
  • Bird Hikes in multiple locations
  • Flower Festival at Calumet Park
  • Stewardship Work Day at Eggers Woods
  • Mother’s Day Nature Walk at Sand Ridge Nature Center
  • Moonlight Nature Hike at Promontory Point
  • Night Hike at Sand Ridge Nature Center
  • A Tale of Two Lakes – hike between Lake Calumet and Wolf Lake
  • The Wonder of Salamanders at Sand Ridge Nature Center
  • Sunrise Serenade bike ride around Wolf Lake

Nature Block Party, a fun-filled day for the entire family, will take place at William Powers and Eggers Woods on May 17th. Come enjoy fishing, birding, biking, nature hikes, and kayaking, and learn about plants and wildlife found in your region!

Urban Biodiversity Week is a collaborative effort between Illinois Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Program, Forest Preserves of Cook County, Chicago Park District, and many other partners who are leading and organizing their events.
